A plumbing answering service that knows a burst pipe from a dripping faucet.
Water on the floor doesn't wait for business hours. An AI receptionist answers every call in seconds, asks the caller to close the shut-off valve if they can, sends real emergencies to your on-call plumber and books everything else.

Why plumbing calls need a fast answer
Most plumbing calls come with water involved. A pipe is spraying, a toilet is overflowing, the water heater is leaking into the garage. The homeowner is standing in it, phone in hand, calling down the list of plumbers on Google until someone picks up. The first company that answers and sounds like it knows what to do usually gets the job.
That pressure peaks at the worst times for a small shop: early Saturday mornings, holidays with a full house of guests, the first hard freeze of the year. Your plumbers are under a sink, the office is closed, and the call rolls to voicemail.
Urgent or not: your rules, word for word
The agent’s main job is sorting calls the way your best dispatcher would. It asks what’s happening, where, and how bad, then follows the rules you set:
- Burst pipe or active leak: shut-off steps first, then straight to your on-call plumber.
- Sewer backup into the house: tell the caller to stop running water and flushing, then on-call.
- Gas smell near the water heater: leave the house, call the gas company or 911, then notify you.
- No hot water: usually not an emergency. It asks gas or electric, tank or tankless, and books the next window.
- Slow drains, running toilets, dripping faucets: book a regular visit.
If your on-call plumber doesn’t answer, it tries the next number on your list and tells the caller exactly what happens next. Nobody hangs up wondering if a message got through.
Shut-off guidance before anything else
Every minute water runs, the damage gets more expensive for the homeowner. So when a caller reports an active leak, the first thing the agent does is help them stop it: the valve under the sink or behind the toilet, the main shut-off near the meter or where the line enters the house, the cold-water valve on top of the water heater. You approve the exact wording. It gives safety steps only and never tries to coach a repair over the phone.
Water heaters and bigger jobs become estimate visits
Water heater replacements, repipes, sewer line work and tankless conversions are where a shop makes its margin, and they shouldn’t be priced by a phone agent. The agent books them as estimate visits and collects what your plumber needs to show up prepared: fuel type, tank or tankless, approximate age, where it’s installed and whether it’s leaking now. With the Book plan it can text the caller to send a photo of the data plate, so your tech knows the model before rolling the truck.
Missed-call text back
Some callers hang up before anyone answers, even when the agent picks up fast. With the Book plan, a missed or dropped call gets a text from your business number within seconds: “Sorry we missed you, this is Harbor Line Plumbing. What’s going on?” The conversation continues by text, with the same questions and the same rules. Texts only go to people who called you. We never send cold texts.
How it compares with a call center
A live call center is a fair option, and many plumbers use one. The honest differences: a call center agent reads a script and usually takes a message, while the AI follows your rules exactly and books the visit itself. A call center bills per call or per minute, by plan, so a freeze week costs more. The AI answers many calls at once without a queue. Where a call center wins is a human voice on a hard call, which is why some shops keep one as backup. The table below lays it out.
What it does not do
It doesn’t diagnose plumbing problems, quote job prices you haven’t approved, or call anyone who didn’t contact you first. It doesn’t replace your dispatcher. It covers the calls nobody in the shop can get to.
AI receptionist, call center or voicemail?
| Compared | AI receptionist (Ammett) | Live call center | Voicemail |
|---|---|---|---|
| Picks up | Every call, in seconds, 24/7 | Usually, with holds at peaks | Never |
| Burst pipe at 2 AM | Shut-off steps, then on-call | Takes a message, pages you | Caller tries the next plumber |
| Books the job | Yes, into your calendar or FSM | Often a callback request | No |
| Freeze or storm day | Answers many calls at once | Queues, overflow fees | Mailbox fills up |
| What you get after | Summary, transcript, recording | A message slip | A recording, if they left one |
| Typical cost | From $249/mo plus setup | Per call or per minute, by plan | Free |
Call center pricing varies by provider and plan, so check current rates before you compare. Some shops use both: AI first, a person as backup.

What kind of business do you run?
Tap yours. Four more quick questions, then Sergei builds your free audit around the answers.
Questions, answered.
We got burned by an agency. Why is this different?
Fair question. Month to month with 30 days' notice, no 12-month contract. Your phone number stays in your name, and so do recordings and transcripts. To switch the agent off, you stop call forwarding on your line. You deal with Sergei, not an account manager. And if the free audit shows you don't need us, it says so.
What counts as an emergency?
You decide. A common setup: an active leak, a burst pipe, a sewer backup into the house or a gas smell near the water heater goes to on-call. No hot water, a slow drain or a running toilet gets the next open window. We write your rules into the agent word for word.
Does it tell people how to shut off their water?
Yes, if you want it to. On an active leak it first asks the caller to close the fixture valve or the main shut-off, using the wording you approve. With a gas smell it tells them to leave the house and call the gas company or 911. It doesn't walk anyone through repairs.
Can it quote a water heater replacement?
No. It books an estimate visit and collects what your plumber needs: tank or tankless, gas or electric, size and age if they know it, and a photo of the label by text. It can share your service call fee if you give it one.
Will callers know it's an AI?
Yes. It says so in the first sentence, along with the fact that the call is recorded. We disclose it on every call as a rule. California's bot-disclosure law (SB 1001) is written for online bots; we apply the same rule to calls.
Does it book into ServiceTitan, Housecall Pro or Jobber?
Jobber, Housecall Pro and Google or Outlook calendars, yes, on the Book plan and up. ServiceTitan depends on your account's API access, and we check that in the audit before we promise anything.
We already use an answering service. Why switch?
You don't have to. Many shops start with the AI on nights and weekends only, keep the current service for a month and compare the call summaries side by side.
Do you work outside Orange County?
Yes, anywhere in the US. The setup is a 45-minute call and a few test calls, all remote. In Orange County we're also happy to meet in person.
How many minutes will I need?
Rough math: calls a day × about 3 minutes × 30. A business taking 25 calls a day uses about 2,000 minutes a month if the agent answers everything, and closer to 400–600 if it covers only after hours and overflow, which is where most start. We tell you how many minutes you used each month (on Book and Front Desk it's in the monthly report), and we look at the numbers with you before you change plans.
