An after-hours answering service that follows your on-call rules.
Your office closes at 5. Your phone doesn't stop ringing. An AI receptionist answers nights, weekends and holidays in seconds, sends real emergencies to whoever is on call, and books or logs everything else for the morning.

What happens to a call at 9 PM
For most small businesses, an after-hours call goes one of three ways. It rings out to voicemail, and maybe the caller leaves a message. It forwards to the owner’s cell, who picks up at dinner or doesn’t. Or it goes to a call center, where someone reads a script and takes a message.
The caller, meanwhile, is usually looking at a list of other businesses on Google. A burst pipe, a dead AC, a leaking roof, a broken tooth or a car that won’t start doesn’t wait for 8 AM. Whoever answers and gives them a clear next step is the one they remember.
Nights, weekends and holidays
After-hours calls bunch up at predictable times: Sunday evenings, the first cold night, the day after a storm, the long holiday weekend when your whole team is off. The agent answers every call in seconds, many at once if it has to, and gives each caller the same questions and the same rules. Holiday closures, different on-call people and special greetings are set ahead of time, so nobody has to remember to change the forwarding on Christmas Eve.
AI, a live call center or voicemail
Each has a place, and the table below compares them. Voicemail is free, but many callers hang up without leaving a message. A live call center gets a human on the line and is a fair choice for businesses that get a few urgent calls a night. It usually takes a message, follows a general script and bills per call or per minute, by plan. An AI receptionist answers right away, follows your rules word for word, books the visit into your calendar and sends you a written summary of every call. Where it falls short is the rare caller who needs a person to calm them down, which is why it can always transfer to your on-call number.
On-call routing rules, written once
The heart of an after-hours setup is deciding what’s worth waking someone up for. We write your rules into the agent during setup, for example:
- Urgent, transfer now: gas smell, active flooding, no heat in a freeze, a roof leak during a storm, severe dental swelling.
- Urgent, but morning is fine: a slow leak, no hot water, a toothache without red flags.
- Routine: estimates, maintenance, appointment changes, general questions.
Then you choose who gets each type of call and in what order. If the first person doesn’t answer, it tries the next. Safety calls get safety steps first, in the words you approve.
Built for trades that get after-hours calls
Every trade has its own version of the 9 PM call, and we write the questions for yours:
- HVAC: no heat, no cooling, CO alarms. See AI receptionist for HVAC.
- Plumbing: burst pipes, sewer backups, water heater leaks, with shut-off steps first. See AI receptionist for plumbers.
- Roofing and contractors: storm damage, leaks, job-site calls. See AI receptionist for contractors.
- Dental: toothaches and broken teeth, triaged by your rules and never given medical advice. See AI receptionist for dental offices.
- Auto repair: tow-ins, after-hours drop-offs and “is my car ready” calls.
What you see in the morning
At opening time you get one summary of everything that came in overnight: who called, what they needed, how urgent it was, what was booked or transferred, plus the transcript and recording of each call. Your team starts the day with a list, not a stack of voicemails. The agent never calls or texts anyone who didn’t contact you first.
After hours: AI, a live call center or voicemail?
| Compared | AI receptionist (Ammett) | Live call center | Voicemail |
|---|---|---|---|
| Picks up at 9 PM | In seconds, every call | Usually, with holds at peaks | Never |
| Urgent calls | Your rules, to on-call in order | Pages on-call from a script | You find out in the morning |
| Routine calls | Booked into your calendar | A message to call back | A message, if they leave one |
| Holiday weekend rush | Many calls at once | Queues, overflow fees | Mailbox fills up |
| Next morning | Summary, transcript, recording | Message slips | Recordings to play back |
| Typical cost | From $249/mo plus setup | Per call or per minute, by plan | Free |
Call center pricing varies by provider and plan, so check current rates. Some businesses use both: AI first, a person as backup on hard calls.

What kind of business do you run?
Tap yours. Four more quick questions, then Sergei builds your free audit around the answers.
Questions, answered.
We got burned by an agency. Why is this different?
Fair question. Month to month with 30 days' notice, no 12-month contract. Your phone number stays in your name, and so do recordings and transcripts. To switch the agent off, you stop call forwarding on your line. You deal with Sergei, not an account manager. And if the free audit shows you don't need us, it says so.
Can it answer only after hours?
Yes. Most businesses start that way. Your office keeps the daytime calls, and your line forwards to the agent at closing time, on weekends and on the holidays you choose. You can add lunch-hour and busy-line overflow later.
How does on-call routing work?
You give us the rules: which problems are urgent, who's on call each night or week, and the order to try if someone doesn't pick up. The agent transfers the call live and tells the caller what happens next. If nobody answers, it takes the details and sends you an urgent text.
What if a caller just wants to leave a message?
It takes one, with the questions you'd ask, so the message has a name, number, address and the actual problem. You get it as a short written summary, not a voicemail to play back.
Will callers know it's an AI?
Yes. It says so right away and says the call is recorded. We disclose it on every call as a rule: it avoids surprises. California's bot-disclosure law (SB 1001) is written for online bots; we apply the same rule to calls.
What about holidays?
You send us your holiday schedule once, and we set it ahead of time: closed days, a different on-call person, a special greeting. The agent tells callers when the office reopens.
Is it better than a live call center?
Different. It picks up faster, follows your rules exactly and can book the appointment itself. A person handles an upset or confused caller better. Some businesses keep a call center as backup for those calls.
Do you work outside Orange County?
Yes, anywhere in the US. The setup is a 45-minute call and a few test calls, all remote. In Orange County we're also happy to meet in person.
How many minutes will I need?
Rough math: calls a day × about 3 minutes × 30. A business taking 25 calls a day uses about 2,000 minutes a month if the agent answers everything, and closer to 400–600 if it covers only after hours and overflow, which is where most start. We tell you how many minutes you used each month (on Book and Front Desk it's in the monthly report), and we look at the numbers with you before you change plans.
